Geeksphone Revolution will dual-boot between Android and Firefox OS

Well folks, I did a post about Sailfish OS (and the first phone to use it, the Jolla phone) last week, so this week, I reckon it’s about time I did another post about Firefox OS. Y’know, because in spite of it not having landed in the UK yet, I really love what I’ve seen of it so far. However, having said that, I’ve also made it really clear that my favourite smartphone platform is Android. Oh, how I wish there was a phone that dual-booted between the two platforms!

What’s that? IntoMobile is reporting that the Geeksphone Revolution is on its way, and that it will dual-boot between Android and Firefox OS? Thanks, invisible blog presence, who I just made up to make that joke work!

Yes, today’s news is that Spanish manufacturer Geeksphone is making a follow-up to the first two Firefox phones they made (namely the Peak and the Keon), but the difference, this time, is that this new phone (called the Revolution) will be able to dual-boot between Android and Firefox OS, so that the user can choose which operating system they want to use (presumably you’ll choose which OS you want when you turn the phone on each time).

Oh, and Geeksphone is also saying that the Revolution will be “a creation with a powerful heart”. Given that there’s a drawing of a computer chip (well, more or less) just above it, that implies the Revolution will also have a better processor than its predecessors. I wouldn’t expect it to be anywhere near as powerful as the Sony Xperia Z1 or the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but as I’ve said many times before, the point about Firefox OS is that phones running it don’t need to be that powerful.

Seriously, stick even a dual-core processor in the Geeksphone Revolution, and I bet you’d get similar performance to a relatively high-spec Android phone like the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. The Revolution will need to be more powerful than previous Firefox phones, though, if it’s also going to be running Android, so it looks like we may finally be about to see Mozilla’s OS running on proper hardware.

I can’t wait to see how this one turns out…
